Today, coming to our website is another international student, and that is Leo from Nigeria. After his experience studying abroad for college, he has compiled some resources/advice that he believes will aid you tremendously when it comes to adapting to the new environment and seeking opportunities for yourself. For those who are still in high school, this is definitely something that you do not want to miss out, so definitely take note on these things!
1. At this point, anything you said you would do in the "future" or "later" has to start NOW.
2. You should probably create a study method that is flexible and time-proof and no matter what incorporates Feynman's technique
3. Network and talk with your classmates a lot. It doesn't have to be primarily about school. Find something you can all talk about or have the same interest in.
4. In college, a lot of things are discounts, especially with your student email so always use them.
5. It doesn't matter what anybody tells you, you can cover and learn your entire college syllabus by yourself by learning with chatGPT.
6. Learn project management. That's how life and college life is in general. Initiating projects, meeting deadlines and cutting costs. You may study project management officially but overall, everything in school and life usually have deadlines.
7. Always strive to be ahead of your schedule. This will allow you to actually enjoy the college experience and have fun to some extent, like going out, seeing new restaurants, joining new clubs amd learning new skills. Overall this will help with your resume and general college experience.
8. The moment you get a job, the countdown till you lose that job starts. It wouldn't even be your fault and you could be laid off. There is no such thing as a stable career. You just become too valuable to let go as an employee. When you get a job, maximize the skillset needed to be good at that job and as much as possible, get everyone to mention your name.
9. Every skill you learn is almost transferrable. So you should always be skillmaxxing. I don't care what is honestly. Even sitting still for 30 minutes every day is a skill. Trust me.
10. Conserve your energy. Unless you're resting (doing absolutely nothing including not scrolling) you're using up energy. Only a few things really re-energize me. Sleep, sitting still and reaching a goal I set.
11. When you do get a job, use the company's resources or name to network. Also get very good at your job and get ahead of your schedule, so you can get more skilled and get more certifications that make you look more skilled. And with all these tips, one is the most important. Always buy yourself stuff. Honestly, you can't be doing all this and not buy yourself new kicks or clothes because you deServe it after all that hardwork.
