Seek for internships

Every year, you have that chunk of time when you don't have to go to school, and that summer, I believe, is a perfect time in high school for you to build your college application and also to find your interest. Therefore, today I will dedicate this post towards teaching you how to seek internships.

Okay, first of all, before you actually sign up for different internship opportunities, you have to figure out what are you interested in, what do you like, what subject are you interested in, and what do you want to dive deeper into after being able to recognize this. See on the internet or on the local news about where you can find those opportunities.

Where can you find these internships? Are they close to your house, or are they further away? For example, if you want to do an internship about research at a college, you can find a website for the college and see the major that you're interested in. For example, I would go to the website of the local college near my house and I would search up the major that I like, for example, psychology. In the website where I search up for psychology, they will give me a lot of information about the major that is offered there, psychology, and they also provide a lot of contacts for us to reach out to these professors. These are the people who you should be interested in trying to research about. These people, and see what fields, what work they are working on, and try to reach out to them if there's some things that you want to collaborate on if you want to learn more about.

The same way goes with colleges that are abroad. For example, you are very interested in going to Harvard, and you would like to make some opportunities to get to know these professors beforehand so they can give you a boost in the college application. With that, you can go to their website, see the department of interest, for example, the psychology department, and then look at the names of the professors there and what they're doing, see what work do you like, and contact them.

It is very important that when you email to them and show your interest, you must do it in a formal and right way, because typically these professors will receive applications, will receive interest from hundreds to thousands of high school students around the world, and of course, they only have a few responses for some of the applicants. So, you have to know your way in order to increase the chance of getting involved in an internship with each professor.

Typically, an email that is sent to these professors will have these parts: First of all, is the introduction. Before more, say hello to them, introduce yourself, who are you, something like that. Next, talk about what you are interested in, talk about why your interest is matching with the professors, and why it would be a good opportunity for you to collaborate with that person. Essentially, you have to answer the question of why you want to do it. Next, this is not mandatory, but you can show your proof of previous involvement or prior knowledge regarding the internship that you're taking. This will give you a very big boost, because these professors, they will know that you have had previous knowledge and previous achievement with what they are researching about, therefore, you will have a higher chance of being accepted into the internship programs. Finally, wrap up the email by being respectful and ask them for a response, and make sure to say goodbye to them.

Finally, please never give up. There are a lot of people who have signed up for love internship programs, but are not accepted. Many of these people, they got mad, they got angry, and they decided not to do it anymore. However, you should normalize this fact. There are many people who apply to 50 different internship positions from 50 professors, but only one of them decides to accept that person. Therefore, never give up. You should try to reach out to as many of them as possible, so that their chance of landing increases. If you fail, then it's okay, but if you fortunately get accepted, then good for you. After proving it, please be respectful and listen to what those professors have to say, and follow them, so that you and that person can build a good relationship while also achieving the same goal of getting some certain achievement in their internship program.

With that, I hope you have good luck in achieving this, and I will see you next week.
