Alright, so in high school, a very important thing that you have to be aware of is your grades at school, because that is a very huge component when you build your college application. In my perspective, when it comes to getting good grades at school, two things need to be satisfied: you are able to succeed in those classes, but at the same time, you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable with the presence of the teachers. I have known several cases where although a person is very good at a subject, they really loathe their teachers, and because of that they don’t feel motivated or enthusiastic in that subject whenever these teachers are teaching the subject. Teachers do indeed play a very big role in your education path: they can greatly affect your interest and your performance in a certain subject, and at the same time they are writing your recommendation papers. Because of this, personally, I find it helpful for you to get affinity from your teachers, and because of this, today let’s look at some of the tips that you can do to achieve this - and mind you, these are especially easy things to do.
First and foremost, please don’t be a noisy student in your class. In a class, the kind of student that the teacher hates most are those who not only don’t pay attention in class but also get other people distracted. So for the first thing, please don’t be noisy in your class - this doesn’t only agitate the teacher, but can get you into great trouble. Instead, pay attention to the lesson as well as taking notes of what is being taught - you don’t have to be the best student in your class, but please show the teacher that you are respecting them.
For the first tip, always try to finish homework in time. This can help you in various aspects: first of all, by finishing homework you are catching up with the workload and are not falling behind. Second, by finishing homework on time, you are avoiding yourself from getting into trouble as well as preventing you from struggling with that particular class. Last but not least, by doing what the teacher is telling you to do, you are showing them that you are respecting what the teacher is saying, and by doing this your teacher is definitely going to turn a friendly eye towards you. Apart from this, you can show your engagement for this subject by engaging in the classroom. Don’t fear when it comes to asking questions or raising some concerns in class: there are multiple benefits from this. First of all, you tend to ask questions because there are some things that you are clear about, right? By being able to raise these questions and get them concerned, you will be able to understand the lessons better, which is going to benefit you when it comes to having tests and things like that. Additionally, just like I’ve said before, by raising different concerns, teachers know that you are actually focused on what they are talking about, and they will feel respected by you. And last but not least, it certainly will create some impressions of you to your teacher, as a student who is enthusiastic with their subjects and is not fearful to challenge them. In my school I was enrolled in a physics class, and in one of her classes I challenged her with one of the answers she was putting on the answer key - which I got correct and she got incorrect. But instead of being hateful towards me, this has (I think) created a good impression of her to me, and we have developed a very good student-teacher relationship.
And last but not least (although you can do it or not), is that you can personally ask the teachers for additional resources. There are three benefits that you can gain from this: firstly, by gaining additional resources, this will aid you with your learning career, where you are receiving additional content for you to learn. This will make sure that you can strongly comprehend what is being taught in class, which can get you more prepared with exams. The second benefit is that, just like I’ve said before, this will create a good impression of you towards your teacher, as one who is enthusiastic with the subject and would like additional resources from them to do at home. But the third benefit is the most important of all: by personally reaching out to the teacher, this can be a start to a personal relationship between you and your teacher, where they can help you with a lot of things later on!
