In high school, it is very likely that you would like to join a club or even better, to start one, and it is your own baby, your own product of hard work and collaboration between different club members. You definitely would like to grow it, you definitely would like to expand its impact so that more and more people are aware of your club. This is why I would like to create this post telling you how you can get your club outside of school, how you can amplify the impact of your club not only in your school community, but also the society around you.
Talk about an example of how my club, the Psychology Club, has been able to do it. In the summer between 10th and 11th grade, DGS Psychology Club has successfully hosted an event which is a collaborative opportunity with 111 National Hotline, which is hosted at SOS Village Hanoi. In that event, we talked about how we can protect the safety of children when they are on the internet. At the event, we have also invited some reporters to come to us and to talk about this event. Unfortunately, we have been able to be featured on the news, and of course, if you are eager to do this, you would love to do this too, right?
Therefore, today I would like to show you some tips on how you can start to get out of your comfort zone and start to amplify the impact of your club.
So, how can you even start doing this? If you were me from a few years ago, you would ask yourself, "Because how can I even do something as big as that?" However, don't ever underestimate your ability to achieve great things, great achievements. The first thing you need to do in order to hold these kinds of events is to have a good idea. There should be something that is meaningful, because if it is something that you don't think can have a big impact, then how can you be able to spread the awareness of this event to more people, even people outside of your school.
After you have been able to come up with a good idea, you should have a clear plan of what you are going to do. There should include a lot of information, including, for example, why are you holding the event, who are you going to collaborate with, or something like that. There should also be some sections about more detailed stuff, for example, who is going to pay for the reach out to reporters so that they can feature you on the internet, etc.
After you have been able to come up with a detailed plan, you need to get support from other club members. Basically, you would assign them their task, what they will do, and basically delegate the work to them. As you know, if only you do it, then the result is not going to be efficient, but if many people do it, then work is going to be more smoothly going.
After that, something you can consider is for collaborative opportunities. Essentially, if you want to reach out to other clubs at school or do you want to reach out to non-governmental organizations, for example, you should have a plan of how you can reach out to them. In the case where they approve of it, then great for you, but if they don't agree on that, then you should have a backup plan of who you want to reach out to.
Otherwise, when you start to host the event, you have to consider a lot of things, not only who, what, where, and one of the event, but also how are you going to promote the event, how can you make you successful, how can you prevent the little issues that can really affect the efficiency and success of the event.
Finally, let's talk a little bit about what you should do when the day comes. Of course, you should always be cool and react to the different issues that occur there as normally as possible. As you know, in life, things don't always go the way that you want to, but the important thing is that you calm yourself down and you think of how you can get out of this issue, and don't just think that you are the only one who make mistakes, because for any clubs to host a successful event, it was a lot of effort and it was a lot of practice.
If you want to prevent these things from going on, something that you can do is that you can have some certain backup plan, some Plan B, Plan C, and you will need to figure out these potentials problems beforehand so that you can have some certain resolutions, so that when the event actually went wrong, which I hope what happened, you can have a plan of how you can get your club to get yourself out of that bad situation.
