Although this is not something that is relevant only to teenagers, however, this is something that has been going on for a while now and that many of you may be interested in. Therefore, today let's talk a little bit about how you can go eco-friendly after you know your action counts and that your action today can really affect the planet. There are small things, small habits, that I believe that you can change that will bring great changes to the environment. By this point, you may ask me: "How will my actions count?" However, remember that although one person's action is not necessarily going to change the world, your action today can influence other people around you. And when we are able to build a community where we cherish the environment, where we take steps to take care of the environment, then there's going to be great changes.
First off, let's talk about light. Please always turn off the lights whenever you don't use them. For example, after you go to the toilet and you have done your business, please turn off the light. Please also, when you get out of your room and come back for a while, also turn off your light because no one's going to use it anyway. Also, try to use natural light instead of using artificial LED lights all the time. This can bring two benefits: first of all, it can prevent you from wasting energy when you can use it freely from the sun, and secondly, when you are reducing your use of electronics and light, you can reduce the money you have to pay for this.
Next up, avoid single-use plastic bags and bottles. I know that we use plastic bags all the time. I live in a place where every interaction, every transaction that occurs in supermarkets involves plastic bags. However, it doesn't have to be that way. You can just bring your own bag, bring and show off your tote bag or something like that, and use that bag to carry the food home, to carry the stuff home. That way, you can reduce your consumption of plastic bags, and when you do it for months and months and years, you can save up hundreds of plastic bags. Imagine if millions, if not billions, of people decide to reduce their consumption of plastic bags by 100 plastic bags per year. It will make such a big difference. You see, small actions, when built and practiced by the whole community, can bring great changes. So, please, do it.
Another thing that you can do to reduce your carbon footprint and protect the environment is to walk or use the bicycle instead of using motorcycles or cars. I know that it can take much more time, and there are occasions where you have to be fast, different consequences notwithstanding. But for the case when you don't have to, try to walk instead. Try to ride a bike instead. There are many benefits from them, apart from reducing your carbon footprint. You can actually make yourself healthier by exercising. Walking and riding a bicycle are physical activities, remember, but you're writing a car is not. Also, by walking or riding a bike, you don't waste any money towards using fuel. So, if you can, try to walk or bike more often when going from different places to other places.
Next is to avoid fast fashion and use your clothes more efficiently. Many brands are deemed fast fashion because people who buy it will typically waste it after a very short time, and that those clothes will really pollute the environment. Therefore, instead of trying to follow this trend, use your clothes more efficiently. You can opt for more expensive options, but those expensive ones tend to have higher quality, meaning that they can last for much longer and that their texture will better suit you.
Finally, getting involved in environmental activism in your local area is not a hard thing to do at all. And remember, when different people come together and act for the same cause, the impact will be very, very big. One person may not be able to remarkably change the world into a better place. However, when you educate the people around you and raise awareness of the environmental issues, as well as to urge them, to encourage them to practice little changes, these are just little changes, but they are going to make such a big difference. The question here now is: Are you ready to make these changes?
