Before we continue on this unit, I would love to remind you that summer is finally here! Summer is a rare occasion for teenagers when they are able to relax without having to care much about academic work. During this free time, many teenagers surely are going to be interested in making some money for different purposes - for instance, to have some extra cash lying around to hang out with friends, or to save up for college. ThereforTherefore, this post is going to be dedicated towards giving teenagers advice on some ways that they can make money over this summer holiday.

Have a Job

If you are old enough to get a job, don’t hesitate to look out for one. Looking for a job can have many advantages, besides earning you some money. First of all, by having a job, you can get real-life experience with working, meaning that this can prepare you for the actual work life later on. Secondly, by making connections with people who are already in the workfield, this can bring you a great advantage to your future, when you can seek help from these people when you get older. Finally, for high schoolers who are going to apply for colleges, having a job can be a meaningful extracurricular activity, which has the potential to impress college admission officers.

Freelance

As an alternative to taking a job, you can become a freelancer, which has the benefit of you becoming more flexible with your work schedule. The downside here, however, is that you may not get a constant flow of income, as many times people may hire you, but other times they may not. For a good start, try to go on Fiverr and sell your service - the service you are offering should be something you are good at, or people are not going to hire you. There are many videos online on freelancing skills, including things like advertising yourself or setting appropriate prices, so a recommendation is for you to check these out before you actually start doing this. An important thing to remember is that for beginners, it can be extremely difficult for you to get people to hire you, so apart from learning how to better get yourself out there, be patient!

Tutoring

If you are good at a certain subject and have a liking towards helping those younger than you academically, tutoring can be a good thing that you should try. Tutoring, especially 1-to-1 tutoring, can generate somea good amount of money, and plus, you can make connections with your new friend - your student! The hard thing here, though, is to be able to promote yourself and get yourself trusted with your academic capability, as parents typically prefer to get their children tutored by older tutors with more experience. However, when you have been able to get the trust of them, money shouldn’t be a hard thing to get.

Babysitting

During the summer break, parents still have to get to work, therefore their children typically have to stay at home alone. This is where babysitting is something that is very needed by them. Babysitting isn’t something difficult to do at all, and it can get you a constant source of income. Yet, babysitting means that you have to take care of a youngster for long hours per day, which can be boring. Additionally, parents expect babysitters to engage with their children as well, so learning on how to play with or educate kids can be a good idea if you are interested in this job.

Dog-wWalking

Dog-Walking is also a fairly simple job that any teenager can do, as all you have to do is to walk the dog and clean its stool and urine. It also doesn’t take much time, so you can opt for this if you don’t have much time over the summer. Apart for the fact that dog-walking is definitely not suitable for those who are allergic to dogs as well as those who are scared of the species, controlling the dogs are also a quite daunting task - dogs can get hyper-excited or agitated sometimes, so sometimes they may bark a lot or run expectantly that you may lose the dog-leads.

Selling Goods

Finally, another thing you can do to save up some money over the summer is to sell goods - look around your house for things that are no longer needed or used, and try to sell them (definitely ask for permission from your parents first, though). Typically, there are 2 options: first, you can hold a yard sale - this means quite a lot of preparation. Alternatively, you can opt for the second option, which is to sell your stuff online, in sites such as Ebay or Facebook Marketplace. Be sure to understand how these sites work before using them.

How To Spend Money?

Now, the question is this: after you have gotten money, how do you deal with it? As something that any teenager should do, try to track your money, as well as having a plan on how to use this. For instance, if you are saving money to hang out with friends, try to determine how much money you should spend per trip, and how you will store the leftover money.
