Okay you guys, so today let’s get away from all those “tips and tricks” posts and let’s do something more personal! So I have to admit this: I really like reading. I just like the feeling of being able to get away from everything in life and focus on reading a book. A book can be read anywhere: in your bed, on the bus, on a road trip, at a coffee shop, etc. - essentially somewhere that you don’t get easily distracted. Over the course of the years I have read, I have been able to expose myself to a lot of books of different genres, and today, I will share with you guys 5 books (of all genres) that I think are very great and that you may like (like me!)

1: The Great Alone

This is definitely for someone who likes the romance genre, especially for teenagers like me. The great alone is essentially about a love between these two people, which got shaken a lot by different events in their lives. For me, this is certainly a very good read - it is actually quite a long book, but it is just so addicting to read! The romance that is discussed in this book is, for me, unbeatable - oh, and also note that there is some description of sex that is shown in the book. This actually makes the book so good in my perspective. Definitely get this book if you like this genre.

2: Tuesdays With Morrie

Oh my god, I can’t just emphasize how good this book is. I know that this book has been recommended and talked about many times over the years, but again, you should read it, really! Essentially on each of these Tuesdays, this professor called Morrie is teaching one of his old students lessons about life, and these lessons are honestly meaningful. Read this book for an old person’s advice about life - ranging from love to death - so that you can live a better and more fulfilling life. This is also a very easy read - not a really long book - but woven into the book are a lot of meaningful lessons, therefore definitely read this book! Note that there are not a lot of “dramas” in the book.

3: Lament

Just like the name that you just read above, this book is all about lamentation - specifically, about a dad’s lamentation and misery over the death of his beloved daughter. This is actually a poetry book - there are not a lot of poems there (30 probably?), but the content is honestly very good, at least if you are able to grasp the content. This is actually going to be a very enjoyable read in the span of 1 day, but to really understand what is being conveyed in this short poetry book, read it slowly and enjoy the flow!

4: Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window

Let me just tell you something: this book is insanely good - like literally, it is so well-made. I remember that I read this book in 7th or 8th grade, but I can still vividly remember the details there - that is to tell you just how amazing this piece of art is. Essentially, this book is the author’s childhood memoir of the time when she was in this school (after she was expelled from her previous school); a lot of things have happened in this book, and through just reading this alone, I have learned a lot, especially regarding this school’s approach on educating students, which focus on fostering creativity and freedom. It is such a mood swing reading this book - sadness, empathy, laughter, interest, I’ve experienced them all. Personally, I believe that this book can be read by anyone of any age, so if you ever have the chance to read it, please do so - I swear you will not regret that decision at all.

5: Crazy Rich Asians

And the last book that I want to recommend to you all is definitely for those who prefer reading books for leisure, and that is the very popular “Crazy Rich Asians” book, which has actually been turned into a movie that was released in 2018 (fun fact, I have read the book and watched the movie). The book is definitely for those who enjoy drama and all of those family tensions and “war of the riches” - the book is about a girl who is dating a very normal boyfriend … until she realizes how rich her boyfriend’s husband is, when she flies with him to his house in Singapore. Despite that the events in this book are certainly fictional, if I’m not wrong, it is actually influenced by some certain instances of crazy rich Asian households. If you have the time to watch the movie, you definitely will be amazed by all of those decorations and big houses and chandeliers and cars and everything - and while the book isn’t going to visually show you that, it obviously will describe of all those crazy things, as well as the the drama that is displayed throughout the book.
