As a high schooler, chances are you are very ambitious and that you have a lot of plans going on in your mind. But the truth is, in order to make a thing really work, you have to dedicate a lot of time into it, and as you are in the school year, you may not have that much time to pursue these things, especially at the initial steps. That’s why I strongly believe that summer is one of those very amazing times where you don’t have to care about school, and when you can do a lot of stuff that is probably not going to be done in the school year. Therefore, today we are going to look at some certain ways in which you can spend your summer more effectively, in order for you to achieve more in your life. Before we start, I would like to emphasize that for big plans in your mind, you shouldn’t just do that in the summer and dump the plan away in the school year. Rather, what I am trying to say here is that summer can be a great time for you establish new things and do new things, so that you can continue on those things in the school year without having to care too much about that - basically, the initial steps are always going to be harder to pass compared to the later ones, right you guys?
Firstly and foremost, which is almost the most important thing you should be doing as soon as summer starts, is to set goals that you want to achieve by the end of summer. This can be something specific like to open a non-profit organization on cleaning trash, or if you haven’t thought too much about this yet, you can set your goals as something more generic, like “create 2 more extracurricular activities”, or “read 3 more books”. So why do I believe this is the most important step? Well, when you have a plan of what you want to do, you certainly will have more clues of what you should be doing in the summer to achieve the goals, meaning that you will surely be more productive, where everyday, you realize that there are things that you can and should do.
Next is to build an effective schedule. Something that I would recommend you to do is to create a weekly schedule, where you will think of what you are doing each day - however, you don’t have to be very specific in this part, since certainly the things you are doing can vary between different weeks, meaning that instead of writing in a detailed of what you are doing, you can instead create time blocks for different activities, and then based on the scenario of each week, you can do work in that time block. This is a great way to work towards your goal, since by having a clear plan, you can easily take track of what you are doing, and lay forward a straight path towards these goals.
Summer is that rare time when all the time is yours, therefore please, please, please, get exposed to new activities. First of all, it doesn’t hurt to try out new things - what if there are things that you are actually interested in? And second, you don’t have to worry too much about wasting time - for example, it will take you around a week and 2 hours per day in order to finish a painting. In the school year, it is almost certain that you can not just spend this big chunk of time doing something that you haven’t tried before, right? - it’s just not worth it compared to all the other things that you can do instead. But when it is summer, a chunk of time like this doesn’t hurt - and most important of all, compared to when you explore your interests in the school year (well, in the school year you can try out clubs), you won’t have that sense of “worriness” whenever you are doing these things. And also, there are a lot of opportunities available in the summer time - you can volunteer, you can intern at a place, you can work at a small restaurant (check the law of your area before doing this, though), so it is a great time to try out new things!
Lastly, don’t forget to relax! The school year has been very tiring already, so please don’t force yourself to achieve everything in just a few months of summer. Apart from the time when you actually feel that it’s fine to do different things, summertime is all about relaxing and enjoying yourself! You want to sleep for 10 hours every night? Do so! You want to hang out with your friends by going somewhere? Try it! You want to binge on the latest TV series? Why not do it? Remember, all the time is yours, so whereas it is important to be productive, you can always be lazy - because there is no harm in doing that!
