Okay, let’s all admit it: success in the academics aspect is going to help you a lot later on in your life, right? While this is true, some people are able to succeed academically, while some others seem to not have the ability to do so. Whereas a factor of this can be attributed to the fact that some people are able to take in information more quickly than other people (essentially they are born smart), another key factor that leads to this is about “how are you studying?”. I know a lot of people around me who study for long periods of time, yet they are not able to grasp information well, and end up not getting a very good score. On the other hand, I see some others who are able to finish a lot of work and study well in just a short period of time, and they end up getting a very good score. So why is this the case? Okay, so to answer this question, it all comes down to the way that these students are studying - some students have the skills and know how to study effectively, while some students can’t do this. And of course, we would like to be the type of students who are able to work well in a short period of time, right? Because of this, today, let’s talk about some tips on how to learn more efficiently.

- Realize the importance of studying well

Before we even come to the “tips and tricks” part, first of all, you must realize the importance of studying, and not just studying, but studying well and ace exams. A lot of people aren’t able to succeed academically because they are not really working hard and putting their minds into it. Studying is all about sacrifice and spending a lot of time to perfect yourself, so if you are not able to really understand the benefits of studying well, you will easily give up in the long run. At the end of the day, it is all about having a strong mindset and building yourself the idea that “you need to do this” - when you have been aware of this, you are going to be able to build this sense of determination and willingness within yourself, which can help you moving forward whenever you are facing challenges along the way.

- Have a studying schedule so that you don’t waste your time

The most important practice that I believe you need to do and obey is to have a studying schedule - note down the time block during the day that you “have to” study, and what subjects you are going to study during that period. The reason why I really recommend you to do this is that by having a set timetable of when to study and what to study, you can prevent any waste of time during the day. I know that some people love procrastinating, but remember, it’s all about sticking to the goal and knowing that you have to do this during this period of time. You see, at the end of the day, it’s all about your choice: if you want to ace exams and do well academically, you must have the willingness to stick to your plan - and here, it is to study during this certain period of time instead of wasting time into doing other unnecessary time.

- Engage in class and ask questions to teachers (for clarification)

The next tip for you to follow is to engage in class and ask questions to teachers. The time when you are at school is the valuable time when you always have the teachers for you to ask. Utilize the presence of teachers at school - during classes, also focus and take notes, as well as ask questions or clarifications if needed. You can also come to their office during break times to ask questions also - remember, at the end of the day, it is your choice that directly affects you. Oh, and don’t forget this - you don’t only benefit in the academic aspect from engaging with teachers at school, but the truth is that teachers really like students who focus in class and show enthusiasm with their subjects!

- Avoid distractions whenever you're studying

Last but not least, please avoid any source of distraction whenever you are studying. Let’s list out some of the main concerns and how can we deal with this:

+ Loud noises: if you have your own study space and your own room, please close the door. Otherwise, Put on an earphone and open some lofi or calm music - this not only will clear out all the sounds outside, but also make the learning experience more enjoyable (unless you can be distracted by any type of music).

+ Any things on the table: just clear your table. Remember that anything can become a distraction, so clear them out before you start studying. This includes things like your phone, a book, or even just a plushie toy.
