Okay, so you are in high school, right? And during this age, you will start to need to think about the future; about, for example, what college are you planning to attend or joining, what major are you going to focus on in the future, what subjects are you going to pay more attention to, and things about, for example, your job, your future household, and everything like that. So at the age of around 15, 16, or 17, the idea of thinking about 10, 20, 30 years to come are just so overwhelming, right? Because we are still kids, we are still under the protection and supervision of our parents and our guardians and our grandparents; therefore, to think about the future - we are just so uncertain about it, because there are so many things that can happen, and the choices that we are making now can really affect the outcome of what are you going to become, what are you going to be as a person in the future. And of course, I really understand you on this idea of uncertainty, because personally, just thinking about what I will be in the future when I am independent and when I am an adult without the care of other people or other adults - it's just so scary, and I completely understand you. However, life goes on and time never stops for anybody; therefore, to be able to plan out about the future, about what are you trying to become is very crucial, because if you're not having a clear vision of who are you going to become, of what do you want to be as a person, then when you become older, you will have no road, you have no path to follow, and your life will be so messed up. Therefore, the earlier we know how to be ready for the future, the better. Therefore, in this post let's talk about how you can plan out your future, whether it is college or job or personal life or anything like that.
Okay, so this may sound a little bit weird, but by thinking about your future, I think that a very good way that you can practice it is to look for resources on the internet. There are a lot of things on the internet right now that you can have access to, and the information, if you choose it wisely, can be very useful. For example, if you are still uncertain about what subjects you are going to major in, search on the internet about the requirements and also the past experiences of the people in each field, so you can figure out if that subject or that major is a good fit for you. When it comes to universities, you can search online also about, for example, events on college, or also researching each college about what are they offering, what are the requirements, how can we apply for them, what are the fees, and also the students’ life and also what are the opportunities for you if you graduate from this college. From having this knowledge about what you want to be and what the world has to offer, you will make better decisions for, for example, the university that is fitting you or also the places that you want to go, and also the jobs that you want to focus on.
But of course, you don't have to do all the research and everything yourself, because around you, there are a lot of resources that you can take advantage of. For example, at your high school, I believe that there's a counselor, right, who can offer choices and help you with making decisions about what colleges are you planning to attend and what majors are you trying to focus on. Because as you know, a counselor is always going to be available for you at your school, and that they can be very, I should say personalized, because they can help with different cases of students who want to apply to colleges. Therefore if your school actually offers a counselor please, reach out to them because of course, the decisions we are making now have a huge toll on who are you going to be in the future, and a counselor will help you with this process. Additionally, your parents can also be a huge resource for you also, because chances are they have actually graduated from colleges, and although the nature of college in the past and now are kind of different, they are still going to be able to help you with this. The combination of these resources of the internet of the sources that you can find online, of people who have had experiences with attending colleges that can provide useful tips and tricks for you, as well as reaching out your counselor at your school about what interests you and what majors are interesting to you can be very very helpful when it comes to making decisions about what colleges are you planning to attend and what path are you taking in the future when you are an adult.
